Mikati from Dar ElFatwa: Premiership vacuum not permissible, my candidacy currently out of question

Mikati: No legislative polls soon
Tuesday, Mar 14, 2017

NNA - MP Najib Mikati indicated on Tuesday that the extension of the current Parliament's mandate will certainly happen, ruling out the possibility to hold the legislative polls this spring.

"Agreement on a new election law and then on a date to hold the elections requires time," the former Prime Minister told a ceremony to launch al-Azm University's alumni, in Tripoli.

"No solution seems to be waving and I am afraid this would lead to a crisis," he voiced.

"We are certainly with the strong, just, and capable state," he maintained, adding that weapons should be solely within the hands of the state.

"Palestine will remain our central cause until it is liberated; but first, we want to preserve Lebanon and the Lebanese state," he concluded.
