Mikati from Dar ElFatwa: Premiership vacuum not permissible, my candidacy currently out of question

Mikati: No to transfer Maronite parliamentary seat from Tripoli
Monday, May 29, 2017

NNA - Former Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, said in a statement on Monday that he rejected "proposals to transfer a number of parliamentary seats from one region to another, including the transfer of the Maronite seat from Tripoli."

"In the midst of the debate on the election law, and while welcoming the current project which stems from the spirit of the draft law approved by our government, we were surprised by the reemerging suggestion to transfer parliamentary seats from one region to another under the pretext of achieving just representation," he said.

"This proposal carries great danger because it practically means legitimizing division between the Lebanese, and the beginning of a rejected political federation at a time when everyone is required to cooperate so as to consolidate unity," Mikati stressed.
